Nomad Trails: Kyrgyzstan Summer Expedition

Experience the raw beauty of Kyrgyzstan in summer across alpine lakes, vast green valleys and high-altitude mountain routes leading to the remote Kel-Suu region at over 3,200 m. A self-driving guided off-road expedition designed for explorers who want to cross rivers, drive remote mountain tracks and experience nomadic life in its purest form.

About the Adventure

This expedition takes you from Bishkek into the heart of Kyrgyzstan's summer wilderness. The convoy moves through endless green pastures, alpine lakes, river valleys and remote mountain routes shaped by elevation, weather and terrain.

You will drive along both the northern and southern shores of Issyk-Kul Lake, explore the remote Sary-Jaz Valley and Turgen region, cross high mountain passes such as Tosor, Moldo Ashuu and Too Ashuu, and visit the historic stone caravanserai of Tash Rabat.

The journey also takes you deep into the Ak-Sai Valley to reach the dramatic Kel-Suu Lake, including a final off-road access section followed by a short scenic hike. Additional highlights include Chatyr-Kol and Son Kul, two of Kyrgyzstan's most iconic alpine lakes.

Expect an average of 200 to 400 km per day and 4 to 7 hours of mixed on-road and off-road driving, depending on terrain and route conditions.

This is a self-driving guided off-road expedition focused on convoy movement, off-road techniques, river crossings and real overlanding experience.
You will also receive off-road driving training throughout the journey, making it suitable for both experienced drivers and those looking to build confidence.

The experience combines driving with cultural activities, local shows and authentic nomadic experiences, all guided and supported by the professional Dunes to Glaciers team.
